Laptop running Widows XP will not connect to Internet

Hi,
After some recent fiasco with installing/uninstalling anti-
virus software I cannot connect to the internet and the
laptop is mighty slow. All the antivirus SW is now
uninstalled but my XP is acting up.

Tried doing the microsoft version of 'go back' to restore
previous settings. But still can't connect.

All I can do is dial in through AOL and read my emails.
AOl keeps telling me that I have a problem with my
internet connection. AOL doesn't even show up under the
Dial up tab of the Network Connections section in Control
panels.

Help!

If you used System Restore, the first thing you want to do is to be sure you
are not reinfected with the virus so I suggest you run a virus scan again.

If you are clear, you might want to contact AOL support for help with this
issue.
