Laptop remembers old domain

Can anyone point me in the right direction here please?

I have a laptop which used to be on a pupil W2K domain. I have now
removed this laptop from the pupil domain and added it to the staff W2K
domain.

However, the laptop remembers the previous domain still - that is, the
desktop and start menu are still pointing to the shared area on the
pupil server.

It takes this setting from the Common Desktop, Common Start menu
registry keys, which is enforced by a GPO.

I then edited the registry to point Common Desktop, Common Start menu
etc to the C:\documents and settings folders. Rebooted.

My registry changes have been undone and it now the desktop and start
menu point to the pupil server again!

It must be that the laptop thinks it is still part of the pupil domain
- but how can it do so if it has been removed from that domain?

Many thanks in advance for your help

Howdy Marcus!

As the GPOs, that apply to your laptop still reside on the harddisk and
get executed every time the laptop starts, you need to disable the settings.

Try putting your laptop into a OU with a GPO in the new domain that
configures your laptop to set the old GPO to "not configured" or "disabled".

When I've seen this, it was due to the fact that the TweakUI tool was
installed. If this is the case, I would set the TweakUI interface to the
desired domain and then uninstall it.
