Laptop performance

Hi, I have a toshiba P4 laptop with 512mb of ram and it
runs very slow. does any body have any idea on how to
improve the performance.

That can probably be determined by what software or virus is running in
the background. Anti-virus up to date, all the Blaster pactches in place
etc.
