laptop monitor will not turn off

I have the power settings in display properties set for:
when computer is plugged in: turn off monitor after 2 minutes. The monitor
WILL NOT turn off. The screen just stays on and the only way I can shut off
the monitor is by closing the lid to the lap top. Please help. Thank you.

You can't possibly expect us to know how to advise you when you
haven't even told us what make model computer you have. Suggest you
read your computer manual or on line PDF file, whatever. Go to the
section describing Power Options and settings. Make sure you have
everything set correctly. Most laptop computers have several levels
of power saving. Individual settings vary according to the level of
power saving you desire.
