Laptop keeps crashing

My laptop keeps shutting down, it seems to run longer
when i leave the laptop switched off 4 a while. I have
reformatted my hard drive, reinstalled "Windows XP SP2",
and scanned my computer with "Norton Anti Virus 2004".
and non of these have fixed the problem. can some1 please
help me fix this problem.

Overheating perhaps?

When was the last time you cleaned your vents, or opened her up and took a
look at the heat sink/fans?
