laptop HD help please

Just appears that I am unable to find the answer due to the many variables I
read about.
I have spent hours now trying the different suggestions, and reading up on
forums etc.

Thanks ALL for you inputs, I will keep it as a spare drive for my laptop,
and forget about trying to use it just for a backup media.
