laptop hard drive compatibility

Hi,
I need to find a replacement for this 1.8" hitachi c4k40 hard drive:

http://www.hitachigst.com/portal/site/en/menuitem.c3a19fd2cb7342d3c15ebaa3eac4f0a0

But it appears to have been discontinued. The closest replacement I
can get hold of is the c4k60:

http://www.hitachigst.com/portal/site/en/menuitem.c3a19fd2cb7342d3c15ebaa3eac4f0a0

However, this appears to have 50 pins whereas the other has 44 pins.
The connector in the laptop is 44 pins. Will it somehow be compatible
still? Oar does anyone know of another alternative?

many thanks

Its worse: For 1.8" disks you cannot even be sure of compatibility
with the same number of pins. And they are really slow. Two good
reasons to not get a laptop with them.

That should be

you posted the same url twice.

Nope

Nope, you are confusing the zif and ide connectors.
The c4k60 is available with both types of connectors.

As long as you get a c4k60 with the IDE connector, yes.
Or does anyone know of another alternative?

No need for one, just get the correct version of the c4k60.

Superb thanks a lot. However, it does say under the IDE side heading:

Traditional 50-pin connector to support connectors typical in IT
applications

But is this perhaps an umbrella term for around about 50 pin?

thanks

Looks like rather clumsy wording. They appear to be lumping
the traditional 44 pins used for the ribbon cable in with the pins
used to specify master/slave etc to come up with the 50 pin ref.

yeah as there is also room for 2 more pins between the jumper settings
pins and the rest.

many many thanks! ive been searching for far too long for this drive.
