Recently, I've noticed that my laptop intermittently hangs for 5-6 seconds.
Only mouse is moving but Windows objects don't seem to respond. The hardisk
LED is constantly lit although I hear a louder than normal harddisk sound.

What's causing this?

Toshiba Portege 7140C

My guess is that your hard drive is becoming a little too filled, causing your system to laga little during boot. I would suggest running a defrag start, all programs, accessories, system tools, disk defragmenter. This might help. you could also try to free up some space on the hd

Check the following
Start/My computer/rightclick your harddrive, probably "C" and clic
Properties. You'll get a pie chart showing how much space is used an
how much is left. It also has a disk cleanup button for your use.
