Laptop gets IP, but no internet

Hi folks, need help with a little problem. My laptop, after getting its SP2
update, will no longer connect to the internet even though I receive my
router's IP address when I ipconfig /all. I can ping and connect to the
router but cannot access anything beyond that. I tested it with another
router/internet connection, same thing (which is why I suspect it's not the
router). Other computers on both internet connections I tested work fine. The
ethernet card is installed and shows "connected" in network connections.
What's going on?

Thanks Jack. I don't think that's it, however. I disabled the firewall, and
XP does not alert me when IE launches (asking if it can have access to the
internet). I did however see an instance of "Internet Gateway" in my
networking connections, something I hadn't seen before. Not much more info
available on this, except that I can't delete it.

Cheers,
chris

Chris,

Exactly what error are you seeing when it "will no longer connect to the
internet"?

Conduct a simple 4 step test. In this example, I'll target www.yahoo.com, which
uses (among many others) 66.94.230.33. Feel free to use whatever web site, for
your testing, that pleases you.
* From a command window:
1. Ping www.yahoo.com.
2. Ping 66.94.230.33.
3. Note success / exact text of error messages.
* From your browser:
1. Browse www.yahoo.com.
2. Browse 66.94.230.33.
3. Note success / exact text of error messages.
