I have just upgraded from XP to Vista. Everything works well except that the
system hangs for about 30 minutes during statup. It appears to be a problem
with Lanman Manager.
Windows Startup repair could find no problems. All device drivers appear to
be installed and working correctly.
Can anyone help?

Hi Chris,

Why does it appear to be a problem with "LanMan Manager" Do you get an error
message? If so, what is it? What type of network are you on? (eg home
network, corpoarte network with file servers, ect)? What point stowards
LanMan?

Thanks

I can only add some information about a similar if not the same problem. I
have a HP dv6449 Notebook that came with Vista pre installed. I used it for
about 9 weeks and withing the last week have slow start up after loging in as
a user. Times range from 15 minutes to 30 minutes. While waiting a red x
appears on the connection icon in the tool bar. A Control/Alt/Delete and task
selection shows that Lanmanserver is in starting status. I can access the
Internet with IE and some other applications but not with Windows Mail. When
Lanmanserver goes to running status the red x clears and the system performs
normally. The problem has to do with Lanmanserver taking a long time to go
into run status. I have not determined why this happens but I assume
Landmanserver is used in networking. I am told that if one ends the
Landmanserer task the system will immediately begin to perform normally. One
even may be able to deactivate Lanmanserver and have the system perform
normally as was reported elsewhere. The only change I know of to my system
since this problem occurred was uninstalling Norton Security, Norton Scan and
the installation of a replacement VoIP (Vonage) D-Link adapter. I use a
Linksys WRT54G v8 wireless router. Others have reported this problem who are
using Vista and other OS. I have not seen a good explanation of the cause or
of a proper fix. If anyone can offer such I will appreciate it.
