Language

Hallo,

I have a german version of Vista Home Premium.

What I am finding rather annoying at the moment is the resource-handling
(language) of the filesystem.

On the disk (ie. via Explorer) the standard 'german' path to my installed
programs is ( C:\Programme ). However, if a Program installs itself in
English, for example if there is no german language-package for the
software, the install path shows ( C:\Program Files ). Problem is sometimes
it resolves correctly and sometimes it creates a duplicate instance that is
actually called 'Program Files'.

Another note... could not install Adobe Acrobat Reader 8 until I reenabled
(with reboot) the over-aggressive Administrator mode...kept saying that the
temporary folder for the extraction was write-protected.

???

Jeff:
This Program Files thing is more an application problem than an OS issue.
It also happens in Windows XP.
Let's say you have Spanish XP installed on drive D:
Program Files folder is D:\Archivos de Programa
Many Hewlett Packard programs will install correctly there but ALSO install
portions of it in C:\Program Files, wrong disk, wrong folder.
It seems as if the C:\Program Files location were hard coded in the
installer, indicating bad programming habits.
