language bar

Hi.

My Language Bar has vanished. I went to Control
Panel>Regional and Language Options>Languages>Text
services and input languages>Details>Preferences, but the
Language Bar button is greyed out.

If I right click the Task Bar, go to Toolbars, and then
click Language Bar, it still doesn't reappear, and
afterwards, there's no check mark next to the Language
Bar option. I installed a registry patch for the problem,
but that didn't help either.

Hi Wes.

I checked, and neither of those 2 policies was
configured.

As for the MS knowledge base article "The Language bar
may not be displayed on the Windows XP taskbar," it
couldn't be BIOS-related because the language bar was
working before, and I haven't altered the BIOS settings.

Thanks anyway for your help.

Hi Wes.

I looked at some of those Google links. I noticed that I
have a Registry entry that people are using to
deliberately get rid of the language bar.

[-HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\CLSID\{540D8A8B-1C3F-4E32-8132-
530F6A502090}]
@="Language bar"
"MenuTextPUI"="@%SystemRoot%\\System32\\msutb.dll,-325

I want to do the opposite (i.e. make it reappear), but
I'm not sure exactly how to edit the registry entry. Do I
just delete that key?

No need for you to edit the registry.
Here's an automated edit.

Go here:
http://www.kellys-korner-xp.com/xp_tweaks.htm

Read the instructions at the top.
Scroll down to 194. Right hand side.

Hi Wes.

I already tried that registry patch, and it didn't make
any difference!

I downloaded it again and gave it another try. Same
(unsuccessful) result. However, I did notice that in the
patch, there's the entry:

[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersi
on\Policies\Explorer]
"NoSaveSettings"=dword:00000000

whereas in my registry (even after applying the patch)
the entry is slightly different:

[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersi
on\Policies\Explorer]
"NoSaveSettings"=dword:0x00000000 (0)

I have no idea if this difference is important or not.

It's the same setting, 0 or zero. What that boils down to is,
NoSaveSettings
is off. Or your settings are saved. A value of 1 or 0x00000001 (1) would
be on. It's in hexadecimal, base 16.

As far as your other problem, I'm out of ideas.

Thanks for your help, Wes.

Hi Wes.

Finally got my fix!

Control Panel > Regional and Language Settings >
Languages TAB > Details > Advanced TAB > deselect Turn
off advanced text services.

I got the tip from www.msfn.org

Dear all--

I followed this thread and tried out all the suggestions here, but to no avail: my language bar is still gone.

This is what happens if I go to the Control Panel, Regional Settings, Languages, Details, Advanced: After I have turned ON the advanced text services and go back to settings, the button for Language Bar has indeed reappeared. However, if I click on it, it is now the following options (Language Bar Settings), which are greyed out. Moreover, the advanced text services are turned off again each time I repeat the whole procedure--despite the fact that I hit "apply" and rebooted.

I'd greatly appreciate if anybody could help me. I desperately need the language bar in order to switch between English and German for my dissertation...
