2 PCs, named H and H1
IPs
192.168.100.10 running WXP Home with SP2
and
192.168.100.11 running WXP Home
linked by ethernet LAN crossover cable.
Each PC pings itself and the other.
Windows and Norton firewalls temporarily disabled.
All drives and files in each PC enabled to share.
H1 sees and reads files on H, allows transfer of files from H1 to H and from
H to H1.
H produces message on attempting to see and read H1:
<H1 is not accessible. You might not have permission to use this network
resource.
Contact the administrator of this service to find out if you have access
permissions.
Logon failure: the user has not been granted the requested logon type at
this computer.>

Advice please?

Is the same user logged onto both computers? Has the user on H been added to
the local administrator's group on H1? Have you given explicit permission to
the H user?

Does the account (username/password) that you're using on
system H exist on system H1 ? If not, it needs to.
Username AND password should be identical on both systems,
else networking won't work.

I have a similar problem (see below). I have realized that on one computer I
am not able to open the same machine (itself) in the list of resources for
the group. I figure that I need to solve that problem first.

Try adding IPX/SPX protocols. I find that sometimes just TCP/IP isn't
enough.

If the user account your logged in as doesnt have a password, you cant access
shared resources on other PCs.

If the user account on H doesnt have a password. Give that user account a
password. Only thing i can think off at the moment.
