lan errors

I'm trying to copy to and from my 2 lan pcs. They're both running windows xp
sp2 all updates etc. going through my sonicwall tz170w router with enhanced
OS. I get errors all the time, p[retty much can not transfer files at all,
everything else works fine. When I try to copy via remote desktop or just
browsing the network as normal folders I have the same problem. remote
desktop also looses its connection all the time too when connecting to and
from either computer. when transferring files i get this error.

Error copying file or folder. Cannot copy filename. The specified network
name is no longer available.

I'll start transferring files and after a few seconds or minutes get this
error. Sometimes I have no error and copying files works. It's random and
intermitant when I get the error. I'm not doing anything special when having
these errors, it is totally random. I am not running any virus app or
anything like that since it's all done in my router. So there's no software
that is causing this, at least no security software.

I have no idea what to do. I never did anything to either pc and then this
problem started. I mean that it's not like I installed an app then this
happened and stuff like that.

The randomness of the problem points to faulty hardware. Start with the
easy stuff and work up. In all troubleshooting, it is important to make
one change at a time, document it, test it, and then move onto the next
thing if necessary. Obviously if you make a change and it works, you've
solved the problem and don't need to go on to the next steps.

1. Swap out the ethernet cables for known-working ones.
2. Uninstall/reinstall the network adapter (NIC) drivers. Get the
drivers from the computer mftr.'s website or the NIC mftr.'s website.
3. Uninstall the NIC and replace with a known-working one.
4. Try a different router. Since you have a Sonicwall, contact them for
tech support first.

Thanks for the response.

Everything is onboard mobo.
Happens on both pcs.
lan cables are fine and the run is not possible to change the cables easy at
all, but they're fine I think.
latest drivers
can't contact sonicwall since support contract ran out and not upgrading
yet. i did think of this though and if/when i do get another contract I
will, however not sure if the sonicwall could be the culprit, but then it
wouldn't surprise me with their software buggieness. oh, ok, never happened
on 3.1 OS, but I have 3.2 now and it started then. So I will downgrade to
3.1 and see if it changes.
I could reinstall windows on both pcs.

not sure what else.
