LAN Disables on Shutdown/Startup?

Dave

We have two WIn XP SP2s on a crossover cable LAN. Both comps connect to an
ISP through the host. Everything works well except when both comps are shut
off. On the restart, the LAN comes up disabled on the host, so of course
the client has no access to the internet or any of the host's shared files.

Any thoughts on what would cause that.

Thx in advance

With a crossover cable connection, the LAN will be automatically
disabled on Computer #1 if Computer #2 is shut off. That's because
Computer #1 doesn't see anything connected to its network adapter.

Everything should be fine when both computers are running. Are you
seeing problems when both computers are running?

Thanks for the reply Steve -

Interesting point. I have been deliberately leaving the client off until
the host is up for a VERY specific reason.

Are you seeing problems when both computers are running?

Big Time! If I start them simultaneously, the LAN connects, but the
$%$#*&% ICS doesn't show in Network Connections, nor does my RD Client
icon become active on the client. In short, I have no way to connect to my
ISP from the client. (Repeated posts on why my ICS disappears have resulted
in many suggestions but no solution.)

OK, that leaves - What happens if the client starts first? Don't recall
trying that specifically, but I will and report back later.

Thx again

Steve - if you're still there ---

Started the client first ---

No ICS on Network Connections, LAN shows "Connected" on Network Connections,
RD Client "unknown". ISP desktop icon will not connect.

In short, there is no way for the client to connect to the ISP.

Reboot the client, everything works OK.

Does this help?

Thx
Dave
