Just built: A8V (bios 0218), AMD 3200+, seagate 200G sata, ATi 9800se

Runs great execpt when I plug in my 8 in one sandisk card reader (in the
back or in the front) the Lan connector or in tha area of the Lan connector
chatters (makes noise) when surfing or downloading files.

Anyone have this problem?

Yes it seems to be timed to the Lan LEDs. The ticking (noise) is in the
direct area of the LAN connector.

Thanks

There are electrical components that can make noise, based on
the current through them, or the voltage across them changing
rapidly. Some inductors exhibit "coil noise", in the same
way that a speaker works (magnetic fluctuation causes a mechanical
movement of a piece of metal, or the windings themselves are
moving). My Antec power supply has coil noise for example. Also,
some capacitors have things like the piezoelectric effect - rapid
voltage changes result in acoustic output from the capacitor. I
built a circuit some years ago, that charged a ceramic cap to 130V
and discharged it in 50ns, and the ceramic capacitor would "click"
each time that happened.

On some electronics designs, the manufacturer will try to damp
such noises, by using silicon rubber or a similar flexible
material, to try to absorb the vibrations. Careful component
selection can also be used to minimize these effects. Maybe all
the staff at Asus are deaf to such things :-(
