Lack of free RAM

I've been having some problems with opening applications and running them on
my computer for some time, and I think I know why. Out of my total of 2045mb
of RAM, 1570-ish is being cached with 0 free. Is this what is causing my
problems? Right now 1.88GB are being used when only my browser and task
manager are open. Help? What should I do?

Vista uses as much as it can for the processes running, freeing up used RAM
if required for any new process, so what you are seeing is normal.

Your computer may have gotten infected with malware though.

With Vista, Microsoft saw unused RAM as a waste, so they made it so that
Vista caches certain things that you use regularly. It will make some
things snappier, but will release that RAM if needed by another
application. So, what you are seeing with the 0 free and the 1570ish
cached is normal.

However, your applications not working may be something completely
different. Have you tried running them in compatibility mode, or running
as Administrator?
