Label Question

Hi,

I have a query that originally worked and printed 30 avery 5160 labels per
page, but for some reason this same query is now only printing 27 labels per
page. I haven't added anything new, except we did network our printer, but I
have since directly hooked the printer into my laptop. Even if I set up a
new report only the 27 labels print. Any help would be greatly appreciated...

Thanks, michele

Hi Michele,

change the bottom margin of the report to be smaller

Hi Crystal,
That was the first thing I did, but for some reason it keeps reverting back
to .5 margins on the top and bottom and .2 on the sides
Here's the steps I've taken to do a label report:

Run the label wizard
Selected 5160 label
Selected the font
Done the prototype label which is four lines at 8pt
Sorted my labels by zip code
Then I get an error message that says

There is not enough horizontal space on the page for the number of columns
and column spacing. click page setup on the column menu and click the
columns tab
reduce the number of columns or the size of the columns.

Then I've adjusted the column spacing and such to 0 the column with is 2.6
and height 1 in. The it still doesn't work, so I go into page setup and it
will allow me to change my top margin, that shows all 10 rows, but needless
to say is to high to print onto labels, but for some reason the bottom margin
will not move from .506. no matter if I change it as soon as I hit okay it
goes back. Any ideas??

Thanks, Michele

My guess is the printer driver has been changed. You may need a newer
or older driver.

Most inkjet printers (friction-feed) will have a minimum bottom margin you
cannot lower. The reason is that the roller used in friction-feed need to
grab & hold the bottom of the piece of paper while printing. Once, the
piece of paper mostly gets through the roller (i.e. passing the safe print
margin but there is still blank paper for the distance between the roller
and the print head), the paper will not be held and printing (if possible)
will smudge. Thus, (almost all?) bottom friction-feed printers will always
have a minimum bottom margin you cannot set the paper margin lower.

You may like to try a printer with both top-feed and bottom-feed. I think
most laser printer will be fine for zero or very small bottom margin because
there is a fusing process after the imprinting process so the paper is held
by the top margin during imprinting to feed the paper to the fusing process.

Hi Michele,

When Access tells you to adjust the margins, don't let it --
you do get a dialog box, don't you? In my version, I can
override its desire to change things.

Make the adjustments directly to the design view of the
report through File, Page Setup, don't use the "wizard"

For the printer, bottom margins need to be bigger than the
top, which you can also reduce

Hi Again Crystal, Okay I've tried to go under file, page setup, it will allow
me to change the top margin, but I still cannot change the bottom. This file
used to print with no trouble on the same printer I'm currently using, I went
on vacation rebooted and now it only prints 9 of the 10 lines.

Thanks, michele

Hi Michele,

hmmm, that does seem strange.

What happens when you try to change the value?

ie: you type a new value, press TAB to move out of the
control or press OK to accept the values...
