Label Printing for Jewellery Products

R

Richard Tubb

Hi,

I am looking for a label product for an Inkjet printer that will enable me
to print very small text onto a label that can be used to mark up Jewellery
(such as rings). Ideally the label should be able to hold a small barcode as
well and only touch minimal surface space of the jewellery (i.e. "hang off"
the small of the ring).

I know specialist printers exist for this purpose but they are expensive and
clumsy. It would be nice to find a product that can be used with standard
Inkjet printers.

Does anyone know of such a label product. Have taken a look through Avery's
catalogue but nothing seems to spring out as suitable.

Regards,

Richard Tubb.

This site _seems_ to have what you want....

http://www.rippedsheets.com/apps/ot/ring.html

BUT I think they are a company that will make ANY size blank label to custom
order... I found they have this page on their web site which looks like it's
designed to attract search engines rather than a real list of available
products. Perhaps I'm just a suspicious old sod.

I've never used them myself so no idea on quality/reliability/delivery. Try
a small value order first?

The suggestion for RippedSheets is a good one. However, be very
cautious when printing very small barcodes with an inkjet printer.
The ink tends to spread just a little, affecting the width of the
narrow spaces; if the barcode is very dense, this can make things
difficult or impossible for the scanner. I would try printing some
test barcodes at the target size on plain paper before purchasing
special labels.

The problem of width errors in small barcodes can be especially acute
if you are using TrueType fonts to create Code 128 barcodes. Here is
a link to a technical article on that subject:

Did you look at the 35mm slide label?

Bob & CWatters, thanks for the info on www.rippedsheet.com and barcode
printing - it seems worth placing a small order with rippedsheets to see how
I get on.

My client is actually based in the United Kingdom, but I don't know of
anybody here in the UK who provides a service such as rippedsheets. Would be
interested to hear if anyone knows of one.

Thanks again both, will let you know how I get on.

There are lots of companies that do custom labels but there will usually be
a tooling up charge or you need to order large quantities.
