Have a look at this article:

(307859) HOW TO: Change File Associations
in Windows XP
http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=307859

More info:

Try this...open an image folder and right click one
of your image files...from the menu, select...Open
With / Choose Program.

Make your choice from the list or Browse to the
correct program if it is not in the list.

If you want the default...choose..."Windows
Picture and Fax viewer"

Once you make your selection...be sure to check
the box that says: "Always use the selected program
to open this kind of file". (you will need to do this
for each format....jpg, .tif, .gif...etc.)

Also...you can right click an image and choose
Properties / Change Button...choose the program
you wish to use and click...OK / Apply / OK.

Also...in WinXP, you can go to...My Computer /
Tools / Folder Options / File Types tab...

I just tried to post and think it was lost, but if this is a dupe. I am sorry.
The instructions were excellent here as my problem was the same. Too bad
Kodak does not have the confidence in its product to give us a choice as to
whether or not we want to make easyshare the default vierer. If they do, it
is hidden some place.

My files are still all of the TYPE EASYSHARE.JPG and that includes ones
changed by EASYSHARE. On XP Professional is their a way to change them all
back to simply JPG or whatever. I can change the name and extension, but the
TYPE does not change when I bring up the files.

Now, I hope that I can remove EASYSHARE once and for all. It is not the
worst program, but sending my pictures with ads to buy Kodak products should
be my choice and Kodak will have to give me a cut if I choose to send them
that way.

Well, any answer as to change the type will be appreciated. Thanks, George.

I did not do that (below) and after writing this I removed the kodak program
and rebooted. The type went back to normal and the program was gone. BTW, the
latest version of this Easyshare (6.X I believe) can be uninstalled using the
normal Control Panal - Remove, since it is listed. Some people in other
threads were having trouble with uninstalling some versions. Maybe Kodak made
that difficult on purpose. This program is close to being as much a problem
as some adware programs. When you send pictures it sends ads to the party
getting the pictures. They want people to buy their products. Kind of sneaky
and I didn't want people feeling that it was me asking them to buy pictures
that I sent to them.

Thanks for the help on here.

One more question though. I made the default picture opening program the
Windows View Pictures and Fax (I think that is the name). The only other one
I liked for simply looking was the Microsoft Office Picture Viewer. That
seems better. Is there any favorite program, among the community, for simply
viewing pictures taken, received or downloaded?

Success at last. Thanks for the update.

Windows Picture and Fax viewer is the
WinXP default and is excellent for Viewing
your images. If you wish to do some editing...
the following freeware is worth a try:

FastStone Image Viewer
http://www.faststone.org/FSViewerDetail.htm

For a much more advanced editor...you
may want to have a look at the trial version
of MS Digital Image 2006

Microsoft Digital Image Starter Edition 2006
is a downloadable 60 day trial version with
much of the functionality of MS Digital Image
Suite 2006.

Once your 60 day trial period has ended, the
program will de-feature to minimal functionality.

Unlike the retail version...the trial does not
have the ability to create VCDs and does
not support RAW files.

Microsoft Digital Image
Starter Edition 2006

(download site)

Be aware that it's a 109 MB download....

Open your Kodak software, go to tools and click on this, then go to
preferences click there, click on the tag transfer, then click on browse and
find the file to transfer your pictures to your documents and picture ablum
there, or just write it in yourself, C:\documents and settings\Your Name\My
Documents\My Pictures instead of where Kodak puts it deep in your program
hard drive files then you have to search for it. That's what I did and it
woks like a charm having a Kodak digital camera with easy share.
