Kicked out of program back to windows desktop

When tunning a game (I have tried several) I perodically get kicked out and
back to windows desktop. It's almost like hitting (Alt-Tab) to change
programs. The program/game I was running is minimized but sometimes it gets
terminated.

I need help.

Since you are experiencing this with more than one game, the problem
could be caused by:

1. Too many programs/processes running in the background
2. Inadequate video card for the games you are trying to run
3. Check on game mftrs.' websites for patches, known issues

There really is no way to give you more focused troubleshooting since
you didn't tell us anything about your computer specs, the games you
are trying to run, whether you could run the games before (and if you
could, what changed), etc.

Thanks for your input and I am Sorry I did not include more data. You know
what happens when you assume.
The game/s ran before without problem. I am not sure what I have done
to make a change. I think the only things are upgrading Windows, Zone Alarm
and things like that.
Computer 3.4 Ghz P4, Nvidia Gforce 6600, Background programs include
Zone Alarm, anti-Virus, ,
I just turned off the screen saver in case that might be it

Cap 'n' Crunch

update video card drivers to WHQL Logo'd, had similar problem, if that card
is evga try this site: http://www.evga.com/support/drivers/ this helped
solve my problem nvidia site has newer version but not WHQL Logo'd for my
card: NVIDIA GeForce 6200 TurboCache(TM)

As Cap'n Crunch suggested, update your video drivers from Nvidia's
website. Yes, turn off extraneous programs like screensavers (which are
known for causing unpleasant side effects like crashing to the
desktop). You shouldn't need to turn off your firewall or antivirus.
And right after you install a new game, you should always see if there
are any patches for it.
