keyboard stops working

Sometimes my keyboard stops working. If I unplug it and plug it back
into my PC, it works again though.

Anyone know why this happens and/or a permanent remedy for this?

You can get that effect when the 5V rail that supplys the keyboard
is a little low. The extra drop down the cable to the keyboard can
see it too low at the keyboard, particularly with an extension cable.

Unfortunately the fix is replacing the power supply.

You can get it with a bad solder joint at the keyboard connector. Try
just wrigging the connector instead of unplugging it and replugging it.

Thats easier to fix if you can solder.

Can also be a bad keyboard, see if you get that effect on a
different system. If you dont, the keyboard is obviously fine.

Don't!
The keyboard is not designed to be hot-pluggable.

You may damage both your keyboard and your PC by plugging or
unplugging the keyboard while power is on.

I have hot plugged keyboards and mice many times without any problems. Probably the biggest hazard when doing it is static electricity; not a big problem in south Florida. When I worked in the frozen north I had a site that would regularly zap keyboard controllers during the winter when hot plugging the keyboard. This was before PCs, and I could replace the circuit board with the controller on it.
