Keyboard layout and character set (code page)

Hans L

I am trying, painstakingly, to learn about keyboard layouts, character sets,
fonts, Unicode, etc, and I have started where it starts – at the keyboard.

Now, when I specify a particular keyboard layout in Windows XP (for
instance, US or Ukranian), how do I know what character set (code page)
Windows will ascribe to that layout?

Believe me, I have looked for a long time on the Web and on the Microsoft
site, but I have not been able to find the answer to this question. Grateful
for a tip.

Regards,
