My cordless mouse and keyboard are not working...I think I need a new
receiver....which I don't have.... So I took them off and put on a corded
mouse and keyboard... But the computer is not identifying them. Hence I
cannot enter the password to get the computer to let me in.

Suggestions?

Thanks

Were the old keyboard/mouse USB or PS/2? How about the new ones?

Replace a USB keyboard with a USB keyboard, or a PS/2 keyboard with a PS/2
keyboard.

The old cordless keyboard/mouse... Receiver plugged into a usb adaptor for a
ps2 (the little round thing that is color coordinated.). The corded
pieces I plugged in are also... PS2... The little round things. And still
nothing

Hmm. That's odd.

I'd suspect that the i8042prt driver is not started properly. Can you access
the registry of this machine from another machine on your network? Or is
this a standalone machine?
