KERNEL32.dll

Another question - if I download Kernel32.dll - when I try to open it, I get
this message:

you are attempting to open a file of type Applicaiton Extension (.dll)

If you still want to open the file, click open with....

The programs I am having problems with (there are 3 of them - the Help files
will not open due to Kernel32.dll) are not listed in my choices. In other
words, where do I put the downloaded .dll file?

What the hell are you doing downloading kernel32.dll in the first
place? It is probably the most important file in Windows.

I guess we'll be seeing "How do I reinstall XP" soon...

Wow - cranky! Here's my original error message:

winhelp32.exe entry point not found...procedure entry point MAPSLFix could
not be located in the dynamic link library KERNEL32.dll

HP techies (I know, I know) told me to download KERNEL32.dll and then didn't
know what I should do with it.

See my message above this one about system file checker.

http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?kbid=142606 is an older
article and doesn't include XP, but the problem is similar, I suppose.
It's possible the software attempting to call Winhlp32 is the wrong
version rather than Kernel32.dll. What program ("graphics programs"
gleaned from the other posts) doesn't display the Help files? That
program may need to be updated; you may need to install an XP version of
that program.

There are 3 programs - 2 from Arcsoft and one is called Professor Franklin.
All are Windows XP compatable and worked perfectly on my older computer (also
Windows XP), but not on my new one. See my system file checker question
below this one as WTC has been helping me and trying out various solutions
for a couple of days now. Seems like nothing works.
