Occasionally when I close a program or open a folder, my desktop icons will
disappear and then reappear about five seconds later (leaving just the
background picture). The computer then goes about its merry way until the
next time without any ill effects.
I saw where you had recommended line 157 for such a problem (in a post
somewhere) but wondered what that particular reg. file did. The reg. file
says something about disabling refresh. What does that mean and what does
it do to my computer?
I just wondered what was causing this problem and how the reg file fixes it.
Does the refresh rate refer to the rate of the monitor or something else?
Thanks in advance,
Carolyn

Not Kelly, but if you need more info on one of the fixes at her XP Tweaks
website, at the top of that website, look for the "View by category" link.
This will take you to another page where all of the fixes are categorized.
Click the same fix there and you will see a brief explanation.

The fix on line 157 turns off the auto-refresh for folders and icons. It
also increases the size of the icon cache so that refreshing is not needed
as often. Should fix your problem.

Thanks for the explanation on the reg file and how to find more on each file
at her site. I had actually installed the reg. file previously but not set
the cache to a higher number. I did that today, so we will see what
happens. I try to never have a day go by without learning something new
about how my computer works and you have contributed to today's daily
knowledge. :o)
