I have winxp home, wife & I have one account and each kid has their own
account (sign on) How can I tell which account downloaded a program
or file.??

Just off the top of my head I would say maybe there is an desktop icon on
that users logon for the program. Or it's configured to start under that
user's profile.

Maybe give some more info on the program.

See who is the owner of the file.

- Right-click on the file.
- Properties.
- Security tab.
- Advanced button.
- Owner tab.

That's how I do it under Windows XP Professional. For the Home Edition,
I believe you have to reboot into Safe Mode to look at the permissions
and security settings. Permissions and ownership are characteristics
available only if you are using NTFS, not when using FAT32.

An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure :) I speak from experience -
2 teenagers! :( Convert their accounts to Limited accounts if you haven't
done so already. Limited accounts will make it easier to figger out
whodunit! After the 2nd attack of spyware/viruses I converted both of them
to Limited accounts/

Where's the file that you're concerned with located? Check the Event Viewer
logs to see if you can figure out who was online at the time the file was
downloaded. You can check that time by selecting the properties of the
downloaded file.

Hey, sounds like my house!! I've also turned on the logon times
feature so they (well him anyway) can't get up again after we
crash to surf. Next time he downloads something, I am going to
sit back with my coffee and make him do all the work to remove
that crap again (and this is with a firewall and antivirus running).

Ah hormones ...

Hello,

Thank all in this thread for suggestions, and I think they are all usable,
so please have a try first.

Then , as a workaround , you may use a third-party download software to
monitor download files.

Thanks for using Microsoft Newsgroup
