Keeping mail in INBOX for more than one week

I am a low-tech new user of Microsoft Outlook and cannot figure out how to
keep my mail (both read and unread) for more than one week. I'd like to keep
it for at least one month maybe longer. I don't know which version I use
but I think it is not too old (2 years max). Please let me know step-by-step
how to accomplish this. Thanks from a frustrated nerd-wanna-be.

Right click your toolbar and enable the Advanced Toolbar. In the dropdown,
change the view of your inbox from "last seven days" to "messages."
