Keeping desktop icons where they are

Whenever I change the resolution of my monitor, the icons reposition
themselves -- destroying the order in which I had arranged them. Is there a
setting that would leave them in the place they are?

Many thanks.

This is asked on a daily basis. Have a look at <http://www.kellys-
korner-xp.com/xp_abc.htm> and select I then Icons - lock on desktop.

Google is your friend -- by checking first you'll save yourself and
everyone else time.

gradually coming to understand that nothing we do is ever our
fault, especially if it is really stupid. --Dave Barry

well, because you're changing resolutions the "place they are" changes
too.

look here for a tool that will allow you to (manually) remember their
locations and then restore them (again, manually). It adds two items to
the My Computer right-click menu.

I don't think it rememebers different layouts for different resolutions
tho, it only saves the "current" layout. But try it...

Here's another option, Google search..

"DIPS" or better "Desktop Item Position Saver" utility.

It's freeware that allows you to save & restore all your desktop icon
positions. I put the default shortcut (opens a dialog) in my
"Utilities" Start Menu folder.

Then I made a shortcut with "DIPS.EXE R" command line to make a
one-click restore in my Quick Launch Bar.
