Keep the office assistant

I think you have made a big mistake removing the office assistant from Office
2007.

It has been proved that people, feel loyalty to a certain computer, in a
group of computers. So it is with the assistant, that comes out to help them,
and share their world.

You shoud at least give us the chance to have an assistant, or not. Me
myself am missing Rocky, my little friend, that sits on my desktop, and I,
like a good many people, I feel, would gladly go back to Office 2003 just to
see his tail wagg again....

I take on board your comments, I don't agree with them 'But that's life' only
time will tell. It will be interesting to see who is right.

I want the Office Assistant back. Both Rocky and Earl are my friends. If the
Assistant isn't going to be offered in Office 2007 I don't think I will use
it at this time. I'd continue to use Office 2003

The Office Assistant is dead, forever. It was a very failed experiment
in providing help to the user. Not only did it fail from an academic
point of view in providing help to a user, but most users also grew to
hate the Office Assistants. Interestingly, the Office Assistant was a
love/hate affair. You either hated it or loved it, and the vast majority
hated it.

No Rocky No Office 2007. Take note Microsoft, you cannot dictate to your
customers, what they can and carn't have, in somthing that they wil hopfuly
be paying you for. they wil do that to you! and walk with their feet back to
office 2003.

We should be able to have or not to have a part of Office that we all love.
and not be told by you that we carn't have it.

This is absurd on its face. When you go to buy a car (which costs a lot more
than Office), if a specific option is not offered on a specific model, you
have the option not to buy the car, but the car manufacturer has no
obligation to make that option available. As you say, users can vote with
their feet, but you "cannot dictate" to Microsoft what it must include or
may not eliminate.

what we think of your product. And then saying "yes but no but" "you will
have this or nothing".

Its a conpleete wast of time. And as for your comments about cars, "Mr Ford
told all his customers that they could only have a black one", But he soon
changed his mind. Need I say more

Well if that be the case then, and you're not employed by Microsoft, would
you kindly refrain from answering queries on this board, as if you had the
final word on the matter.

In future, I would prefer the Comments to come from the organ-grinder and
not the monkey.

And Microsoft employees RARELY ever pop into the newsgroups. That's one of
the things that we, as MVPs, handle. You want to talk to a 'Softie? Fine -
call Microsoft and give them your charge card number.

I think you are suffering under a misapprehension. These newsgroups are for
peer support; they are not managed. And, although the Web interface does
appear to promise a reply from Microsoft on "suggestions to Microsoft" that
receive sufficient votes, we have yet to see a response from MS to any
suggestion that has been posted here.

That said, if you are rude to the people who volunteer their time here and
are willing to help, you will soon find yourself without any response at
all. Walk into your Ford dealership and throw garbage on the floor, yell at
the salespeople, and tell them you only want to deal with Bill Ford. Then
see if anyone wants to sell you a car of any color.

This discussion seems a little absurd. Anyone wasting their time in complex
dialectical about why the assistant is 'an academic failure' and other such
rot might want to reevaluate his or her priorities.

It would be a simple matter to include it as an option in 2007, so,
Microsoft, be kind and provide it for those of us who love Clippy, Earl,
Rocky and the rest. Thanks!

This "rot" is simply trying to explain the reasons why people hated
them.
It would be a simple matter to include it as an option in 2007, so,

Microsoft would just be wasting resources on a very small number of its
400 million Office users. Microsoft has better uses for those resources.

Hi X.,

Unfortunately it may not be an easy thing to 'put back'. The MS Assistants were tied to the help system and that system has been
replaced by a different one in Office 2007.

In Windows XP you can use the assistants in Start=>Search
and you can also 'run' the assistants independently of Office
(http://msagentring.org) but they wont' be able to offer 'help' suggestions in Office 2007.
