Keep text from over-writing adjacent cells?

Is there a way to prevent entered text from being
displayed over adjacent blank cells... I've tried every
combination of cell-formatting, but can't seem to get it.

Steve,

Try putting a space in the adjacent cell.

Thanks for replying.
I did that and the cell just grew to fit the text. Is
there a way to keep the text hidden behind the adjacent
blank cell?

Steve...

Excel will continue to appear to overwrite adjacent cells unless th
adjacent cell has something in it. If you type anything (even a spac
as suggested earlier) into the cell to the right of your text-fille
cell, then the text will appear to be cut off. If you have many rows o
cells, just copy the cell with the space all the way down.

If you are needing to adjust the width of the column to hold the entir
contents of the cell, just click on the column letter, the
double-click on the vertical line that separates the column letters
