I'm using Windows XP Service Pack 2 on a laptop. I'm the only user to this
laptop and I made my user account password protective. Everytime I sign on to
windows and log in with my RIGHT password I keep getting the "password error"
messages in my event viewer. Why is this happening?

Logon attempt by: MICROSOFT_AUTHENTICATION_PACKAGE_V1_0
Logon account: Steven Smith
Source Workstation: SMITH
Error Code: 0xC000006A

Logon Failure:
Reason: Unknown user name or bad password
User Name: Administrator
Domain:
Logon Type: 2
Logon Process: Advapi
Authentication Package: MICROSOFT_AUTHENTICATION_PACKAGE_V1_0
Workstation Name: Smith

I also read this..
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;305822

shouldn't this problem be fixed in SP2?

Hi Steven

This line:

User Name: Administrator

worries me. Are you using the name "Administrator" as your logon name?
It looks to me as though this might be what XP is objecting to, perhaps
because there is a built-in account called Administrator.

I'm using Steven Smith as my logon name. Maybe it's because there's only one
user account on my XP computer?
