KB906952 How to know if Registry Size is exceeded?

G

Guest

I am getting Event ID 2020 and ID 1000 user logon errors on my Win2k SP4
Terminal Server that say my registry size is exceeded. KB906952 says
Microsoft has a hotfix for this issue. However, there are a lot of
complicated steps listed in there like installing a parallel copy of Windows
2000.

It says you don't have to do these steps if the registry size limit has not
been exceeded: "If the memory leak has not exceeded the registry size limit,
go to Step 4".

How do I know if it has exceeded the registry size? Under System Properties
my registry size is listed as 71MB and the maximum is listed as 250MB.
Anyone know how to tell?

The parallel installtion of the OS is only mentioned in case the
server doesn't boot from the original installation.
If you read the steps under step 3 in KB 906952, you see that the
only thing that the parallel installation is used for is to
recreate the same empty registry key as described in step 4.

So if your server still boots, you can go directly to step 4.

Monitor the size of the default registry hive file that is located
in the %Systemroot%\system32\config folder.

Thanks for the response. I called Microsoft about this hotfix and they
recommended I try the steps outlined in KB312362 first. I rebooted and the
problem is gone for today. So if it comes back I will try this first, then
give the hotfix a try.
