Kazaa installation

Wonder if anyone can help me with this....

Kids will insist on installing kazaa on the computer. They only have a
limited account on PC but they still manage to get the crap on there.

What am I doing wrong ?

This needs to stop I am getting pi$$ed off having to keep uninstalling the
crappy program and all the shyt that goes with it

Take a look at the free Shared Computer Toolkit that will help you lock down
your computer for users that you do not want to do such but you will need to
have SP2 installed and be using NTFS file system as shown in disk properties
in Windows Explorer. Keep in mind that any user that has full physical
access to the computer could possibly gain administrator access and undo
what you have done if they have the skill and inclination. I also suggest
that you go into cmos settings in your computer and make sure that the
computer can boot from only the hard drive and password protect the cmos
settings. Again this is not foolproof but worth doing. Usually you need to
fold down del key or such at startup to get to cmos settings. If you watch
carefully at startup the computer usually flashes a message on how to get to
cmos settings. There are other not free programs such as Net Nanny and Cyber
Sitter that also may be worth looking at. --- Steve

Kazaa will always cause problems if it is installed. There is spyware
bundled with it. Once the spyware is on your pc it is easy for other spyware
to install itself. That's just what happens when you install Kazaa. The next
problem is the files available from Kazaa. There are many P2P servers that
are in reality phishing sites. Most of the files available there are
infected with trojans looking to take over your computer. There are P2P
programs (Limewire) that don't install spyware but there is no protection
against unscrupulous P2P servers. We can fix your computer problems but it's
up to you how to discipline your kids :)

Then it comes down to the discipline issue :)

As Panda_man pointed out you could try the MS shared computer toolkit. This
will work but does not teach your kids anything. Personally I would make
them pay to get the pc repaired if they mess it up. This will force them to
think about what they are doing on the Internet. Education is always better
than forced control. Sooner or later they will have to learn the realities
of using the Internet and safe computing practices.

I second mr.Brown's advise to make your kids learn how to use the internet
safely.Depending on how old are they , you can see some useful tips about
kids safety here in Microsoft Protect your PC site:

Last time my teenage son managed to install a bunch of obvious
crap, I told him that while it was going to take me several hours
to clean all his crap up, it was only fair that he went in and scrubbed
the bathroom from one end to the other. Seemed only fair - I
cleaned up after him, he cleaned up after everyone else. Far
fewer problems since then -- don't think he liked scrubbing around
the base of the toilet with a toothbrush ;-)

If all else fails, take the computer access away. What would you do if they
insisted on driving your car without permission (or a driver's license)? A
computer is not a birthright.
