Kapersky firewall

Would it be better to use the firewall on Kapersky Internet Suite or the
Windows Vista Firewall?

Kaspersky 6.0 and the about to be released 7.0 internet suite work
nicely on Vista. I'd use the Kaspersky items rather than the MS ones.

If you feel comfortable behind a router/firewall and Windows Vista Firewall
with AVG Anti-virus go for it. I and many others in our computer club have
become comfortable and have had no problems.

The Vista Firewall, as did Win XP SP2 stops external intruders. Neither
blocks problems created by programs already on your system. Hence, the
comfort level statement.

You maybe comfortable using Vista Firewall, but remember that it doesn't
block outgoing by default. For me this is pretty important.

Why would that be may I ask?

It is a good question, but the information that generated the question is not correct.
In Xp the Windows firewall is one-way only(incoming), in Vista it is two-way(incoming and outgoing).

With respect to Kaspersky...its easier for the user to configure and one of the higher rated 3rd party applications.

I believe that by default, Vista allows all outgoing traffic, you may set
rules to block certain conditions. But for most (home) users an outgoing
blockade is not required, this is a lot of hype put out by firewall
manufacturers. If malware does get into a system, it'll simply circumvent
any firewall anyway.

Privacy. If there is no reason for a program to connect to the internet,
then you should be able to stop it from doing so.

Fair enough, Vista firewall has a whole slew of configurations that can be
applied to both incoming and outgoing connections.

Yes, and Vista Firewall outgoing is about as user friendly as a trying to
get a hippo to make a cup of coffee.

Haydon:

I agree.
I run the ZA beta with Vista's f/w to have convenient outbound control.
Works great.

I have used Zone Alarm before and get on well with it. I am keeping an eye
on it for final release as I am skeptical about using beta software.

To be honest, I would have waited another year or so before using Vista if I
didn't need another computer, because I don't want to be a guinea pig for
any product.

IIRC, ZA for Vista is to be release this month (June).

Vista on my computers has been very stable since RC1.
