I've just upgraded my system to a AMD 64 3200 chip, Asus k8v-deluxe MB, 1GB
(2x512 Corsair DDR XMS3200LLPT), and put my trusty old ATI 9700Pro in it.
While builing I did note the message "If Installing the ATi 9500 or 9700 pro
series VGA card, use only the card version PN xxx-xxxxx-30 or later, for
optimum performance and overclocking stability" but I read this only as a
warning that OCing may not be as good, not as "The 9700 pro pre -30 series
is NOT compatible)"! Any how system has been up and running for about 5
days, and it's solid as a rock (although I did upgrade the MB bios becasue
originially there was a dsplay issure during the install of Win 2k) -
However when I play BF1942 for an extended length of time it crashes but it
does seem to be the card going down, as I can still here sounds (not every
time though). Currently running the Cat 4.2's and every patch I am aware of
(Apart from the very VIA 4-in-1's actually, used the ones I got with the
board). I've tried upping the voltage to 1.7 (and back down now), fastwrites
off, agp to x4 - but still I get crashes...... Anyone else got this combo
working? I'm not sure what to do next

I have the k8v with 3200+ and an older 9700pro. Mine is version 1.1. I
e-mailed Asus about this, and they replied there should be no problem. I
have no stability problems, and I've tried a lot of different games except I
don't own BF1942. The only minor problem I encountered was problems running
Aquamark benchmark until I increased the AGP aperture setting from 64 to
128. No problems with fast writes enabled.
