K8NE-Deluxe won't boot from SATA

I

idiot

this is making me nuts and the asus website is WORTHLESS and hella slow.
it looks like this group has it in spades over them, so i'll try tech
support here ;)

i got a new WD3200KS sata drive and wanted to use it as my boot drive. i
copied C: drive (IDE) to it using ghost. boot freezes after POST- it
clears the screen and leaves an underscore cursor to blink in pertetuity.

here's the specifics from the start-

the sata is connected to the red nvidia connector

the sg sata/raid is disabled in bios

XP detected the drive and formatted it at the correct size and without
errors

when i copied the contents of c: to it with ghost, i checked for source
errors, set the sata drive as active and copied the master boot record

all files copied fine and XP is able to use the sata drive correctly when
it is configured as d:

using only the new sata (IDE hds physically disconnected) and the SATA as
the only boot device per bios setting it will not boot

i flashed the bios to 1011 (from 1003) as i see previous fixes dealt with
sata issues, but no change.

i have seen posts refer to F6 during winxp install to load sata drivers
but the info is sketchy... and doesn't seem to concern the nvidia sata. i
don't want to have to start with a fresh os install and deal with having
to update and reinstall all of my apps on the sata if i don't have to-
which is why i copied c: to begin with.

any and all suggestions are greatly appreciated.

If it is a SATA Driver issue (which is what it sounds like - I had a similar
situation) I have a couple of links for you to look at:

http://www.techbuilder.org/recipes/60403842 (Go to the "IDE to SATA"
section)
http://www.techspot.com/vb/topic8356.html

You'll want the SATA drivers for your WD harddrive - check their website. If
you are interested in setting up a RAID array, you'll also need the NVIDIA
RAID Drivers (which should be found on your Mobo disk). If not, you should
only need the WD drivers...

even though the sata drivers were loaded in xp before i cloned it and the
drive worked fine, i decided to see if an os repair would fix it.

i unhooked my ide boot drive and set bios to boot from cd so i could
repair xp. hit any key to boot from cd and it says "examining your
system" for 10 or fifteen seconds and then the screen clears and it just
hangs.

i've never seen anything like this.
