jvc gr-dvm90 dv

I have a JVC gr-DVM90 mini DV. I can not get it to download into moviemaker. I went to the JVC site to see if I could purchase something to capture my tape. They said I could purchase a third party hardware and software. So I thought I would ask to see if anyone has had experience with this and what would be the best thing to purchase?

I also have a Samsung Hi8 camcorder. It does not hook up to my PC either. How do I capture that tape???

Thanks and stay cool out there!

The JVC is a digital camcorder so you need to find out if you have a
firewire aka iLink aka IEEE1394 card already in your PC or buy one if you
don't.

After that, you need a firewire cable to go from the PC to the camcorder.
WindowsMovieMaker, built into XP will help you capture and edit your video.

The Samsung is probably an analog camcorder. Therefore you would need a
graphics card with VIVO capability (Video In Video Out) or an analog capture
card installed in the PC. The capture hardware usually comes with analog
capture software.

Along with what Cari says. If the jvc has "analogue in" - check the manual -
then you can use the jvc to capture the hi8 tape via this port and then on
to the pc via the firewire. Let us know how the connection of the jvc goes
and we can give more info on this later.

Also if you are connecting via firewire already, do you get hte xp ping when
you connect the cam - which is turned on, powered by mains and in the
vcr/playback position?
