Justifying numbered lists

todays problem is: When we are typing a numbered list and we want a new
paragraph without getting the next number we have been using a soft return
i.e. shift+return, this works fine but if the previous paragraph is on
justification format and the last line only has a few words in it, those few
words ares justified to the stage of being so spaced out it looks ridiculous.
If we try to highlight just that line and make it left align that will left
align the whole document, which is not what we want. Is there anything else
we can do?

On the Tools menu, click Options. Click the Compatibility tab. Check
the option to "Don't expand character spaces on the line ending
Shift-Return" and click OK.

Hi, Ruth. You could set a tab at the right margin, and press Tab before the
Soft Return to prevent that line from justifying.

Thanks you're a star, that works brilliantly

good idea, hadn't thought of that one, but the other answer
tools/options/compatibility and Don't expand characters spaces on lind ending
Shift return, is a better long term idea.
Thanks for your help

You actually don't even have to set a tab stop to use Garfield's idea. But
the best solution of all is to use a List Continue style instead of a line
break.
