Just Started Getting Pop Under Ads

For the past year or so I have had no pop ups or pop under ads even though I
am online @ 12 hours/day and am currently using XP SP-2. I have been
utilizing Norton Anti-virus, MS Antispyware as well as the Google toolbar pop
up blocker which would catch everything. I regularly use Adaware SE, Spybot,
and CWshredder to clean my machine.

On 11/17 I clicked on an ActiveX on a financial planning site and
immediately MS
Antispyware popped up with several warnings. I clicked on the warnings not
to allow the bad stuff to load, but apparently it got around the Antispyware
and now I am getting pop under ads.

Every 10 seconds or so the hourglass appears beside my cursor for about 1
second as if something is accessing my computer. My computer appears
noticeably slower as well.

Coincidentally, I immediately tried to restore to a previous date and the
system wouldn’t let me. I then tried again, and my restore points were gone!

I spent all day on 11/18 trying to clean my computer, using the following to
scan my drive several times each:
Adaware SE, Spybot, CW Shredder, Microsoft Malicious Software Tool,
Microsoft Live Safety Scan, Pandasoft online scan, Pop-up Stopper, ewido
security suite, Spyware Doctor, Stop the Popup.

I removed everything these programs advised me to remove and, even though I
now have all these pop up stoppers running in addition to the Google Toolbar
pop-up stopper, which stopped everything in the past, I am still getting the
hourglass every few seconds as well as pop under ads. Can anyone please help
me????

One, none of the popup blockers you mentioned get ALL popups and popunders.
PopUpCop is far better but it isn't free and, unfortunately, only works with
IE because it is a COM plug-in (but you might not need it with other
browsers, too).

When you think all instance if Internet Explorer (iexplore.exe) are
unloaded, use Task Manager to see if there is still an instance running.
Look in the Processes panel to see if iexplore.exe is loaded although you
don't have any windows open for it. If so, it could be running a script
timer that opens a child window to show the popup. If you kill that hidden
instance of IE then the script can't run and the popup won't appear. You
are visiting a site that is loading the hidden instance of IE so it can run
the script or you have something loading iexplore.exe without a window for
it (use SysInternals' FileMon utility to see who accesses that file).

Thanks for the info. I followed the Castlecops "Malware Removal and
Prevention: Overview" and (knock on wood) my system is back to norma and will
stay that wayl!!!!! What a relief after 2 days of trying to get things
cleaned myself. I was shocked that when I ran "Cleanup!" the program deleted
