Just installed external USB Hard Drive and now Broadband wont work !

Last night i installed an External USB HD and i have now found that my
Broadband Modem won't connect to internet now. I'm sure the two must be
linked, it worked earlier yesterday. The modem drivers are ok (left green
light steady on), but the light for the line check flashes as if the line is
weak.

Could this be to do with USB from the Hard Drive 'eating' up too much power
from USB and stopping the modem from working ?. Would disabling power
management on the USBs in Device manager solve this ? I don't want to fiddle
around with those settings unless it's safe to do so !.

Also, i got a driver CD with the USB HD, it said i didn't need use it as I
have Windows XP (Home Edition). But might using that CD solve it ?. Or
downloading the new Alcatel drivers ?

What things should i try, can anyone think of something else i could try ?

Many Thanks
Andrew ;(

They are NOT on a hub though !! - they are both (modem and USB HD) in the
back of the PC. There is a hub, but that is used for scanner, printer etc
!!!!

Ahh, i see what you're getting at Ricky. Maybe it is eating the power from
the PC's USB. I have even noticed that when i switch on the USB HD, the
modem disconnects (that's the very few times it connects in the first place
!!)

That might be worth trying, thanks Ricky !!
