space, or does it just give you more than one way to access the folder?

Copy would make identical copies of the folder at a new location thus taking
up additional hard drive space.

A Copy is a copy - duplicate files in the two places, which then have
separate 'lives' - if you modify in one place it does not affect the
other. To get a separate reference to the same files, make a shortcut:
Easy way is to *right* drag, take 'create shortcut here'
