Just as irritating..

Just as irritating in FP2003, you can drag an image from
the image file unto your page (then have trouble placing
it without formatting the whole cell) but IF you use the
insert menu instead of drag and drop it defaults to the
last image file of the last web site you had open instead
of the one you actually have open - annoying.

nvm

The best thing to do is always import your images into you site's image
folder before you want to add it to a page. That is the best way, trust me.

Yes, it is, and I do that.

However, many times you wish to test a pic, particularly
in a picture orientated site. So.... before you reformat
its attributes, resize it for page use and then save it as
a Web usable .gif or jpeg, you want to try it.

Irritating to keep having to look thru multiple files and
folders, plus using the insert menu is just an old
habit... :)

Thanks

Hmmm .... interesting ... I'd never thought of trying out a photo that way.
I think it would be far less frustrating to think it all out before
importing into the site and on to the page. Be absolutely sure that you do
NOT use FrontPage's image editing tools. Here's an article I wrote about
that:

I agree, I do it the way you do it...get it as close as I can in PS, then import it...if it don' fit...back to PS...never use FP to edit images.

A 'workaround' for this is to add the locations of where you keep your
graphics to the 'My Places' bar.

Browse to the location you want in the picture dialog box click Tools on the
menu in the Picture Dialog box select 'Add my places' you can then right
click the location in the view bar on the left and move up or down etc. ..
this is a quick way to locate areas you use a lot without having to browse
to them all the time.

I find inserting to be the best way to put graphics on the page.

I used it lastnight. I needed to crop a border off a graphic, so I used the
crop tool. it was quick and better than sending it back to the imaging app.

First I put the image in my web. Then I just drag it from the folders pane
onto my page where I want it. I have never had a problem doing this in FP
98, 2000, or 2003. If I decide the photo needs more work, then I
double-click it, and it opens up in Photoshop, my default editor. I do what
is needed and then save the photo to a place on my hard drive. Then I drag
the photo from Windows Explorer back into its original place in my FP
folders pane, and the fixed photo will automatically appear on my page.

Ah,,, I'm addicted to PS...besides; old habits die hard.
I know it's a lot of jumping around but I know PS like the back of my hand...for me it's just as fast with PS as using FP's tools.

I used it lastnight. I needed to crop a border off a graphic, so I used the
crop tool. it was quick and better than sending it back to the imaging app.

I don't know that I'd do even this in FP if it's a JPEG. When you open
a jpeg it has to be decompressed. When you work on it it has to be
recompressed for a save. Each cycle costs you quality since JPEG is a
lossy format. So, you'd be better off going back a step to a lossless
format or the original photo and working form there. Also, I have
little confidence that FP's jpeg compression algorithm is properly
optimized since my own experience working with MS-Word's graphic
capabilities showed some serious shortcomings in the engines. I'd
opt for a program dedicated to the task.

If's it's a GIF, it probably doesn't matter if you crop since it's
essentially bitmapped.
