Junk filter not working in Outlook

I'm running Outlook 2003 SP2 - all updates in place.

My junk filter no longer sends any items at all to the Junk E-mail folder,
and simply dumps everything in the Inbox.

I've cancelled all rules, and can see no reason for the malfunction. My
email account is POP3.

Anyone any ideas?

Gordon,
In one of the posts below Mary Hartman set a solution. First you delete
the filters file called "FILTERS.TXT" then run repair from the help menu.
Repair may request you to mount the office cd since it is attempting to
recover the file. Once I did this it the junk mail started to function again!

However I first did this back in February and all was well but it stopped
working again the beginning of this month. I did the fix again and it is now
working. If you are nervous about deleting the file, like I was, simply
rename it the result is the same Outlook won't be able to find it. Then once
the file was recovered by repair I deleted the renamed file.

Good luck. Dennis

Sorry, but filters.txt has nothing to do with it. That's an informational
message (i.e., not used at all by Outlook) left over from an earlier version
of Outlook that describes some of the strings that older version of Outlook
used to determine if a message was just. Outlook didn't USE that file,
however.

Thanks for the feedback. I agree with you totally. I looked at the
file and its nothing but a "read me" update describing how the filter selects
messages. I just assumed deleting the file was done to trigger the Repair
feature to actually reinstall
the appropriate component of Outlook. I haven't tried running Repair
without deleting the file. I wonder if it will do anything. I am assuming
the Repair reinstalls the Junk Filtering Rules in Outlook. The next time my
filter stops working I will try running Repair without the deleting the
Filters file and see if it works.
