I checked the office updates yesterday, and lo and behold, there was a junk email filter update.

I have downloaded and installed it, but much to my dismay, the effectivess of the filtering seems to be much worse now than it was before. Does anybody have any thoughts or ideas concerning this? I hate junk email, and it was actually working reasonably well for the most part, until I installed the update.

Thanks

Scott

Are you sure you got the latest update? One has been released yesterday. If
you are running the latest update; what is the issue you are experiencing
(what is worse)?

I know that with the update (not yesterday's) it is not filtering domains
anymore that are listed in the Blocked Senders list.

Roady:

Thanks for your reply. The download was from yesterday - It is the March
2004 update. There just seems to be more spam getting through than before.
By the way, I keep my filter set on "high."

Thanks

Scott

So far I've seen different results from the update; for some it will stop
more (or even all) spam where for others it holds less. Are these real spam
messages or are these mails infected with or cleaned form virusses?

It is receiving spam (not viruses that I am referrring to) from domains that
I have included in the blocked senders list.

I am also seeing some messages going straight into deleted items, from
people in my address book.

Thanks,

-Larry

I'm getting the same result. I have specific domains in my Blocked Senders
list, but they still go to my Inbox and not to the Junk folder.

Has anyone successfully blocked (i.e. automatically moved to Junk folder)
specific domains?

Thanks,
John

i'm blocking mmm-clk.com. (i entered it as mmm-clk.com and outlook shows it
as @mmm-clk.com)

I had entered mxdq06.net and Outlook shows it as @mxdq06.net, but the
messages from that domain still come to my Inbox and I have to manually move
them to Junk.

Any ideas why this isn't working?

Thanks for the reply,
John

If running against a Microsoft Exchange mailbox, are you in cached mode?

Neo,

Thanks for the response. We are using an IMAP Exchange server. I just
checked, and the "Use Cached Exchange Mode" is not checked. How would this
affect the junk mail filters either way? I've noticed that none of them
work, even on specific addresses.

John

Can any of the MVPs please explain to me, or tell me where I can read about
cached mode? What is the purpose of this feature, and what are its benefits
and/or drawbacks? Also, does this effect how the junk mail filters work?

Thanks

Have you queried F1 Help?

Ok, now I am thoroughly embarrassed! I gave up on getting any detailed
information like that from Help a long time ago. That's just what I needed.

As to why the junk filter won't work, any ideas on that? Do we have to be
on Exchange 2003? I still don't understand how cached mode would affect the
junk filter either way.
