Junk E-Mail Folder Function?

Does my Junk E-mail appear with all my other Inbox
messages and do I then have to identify them and manually
transfer them to my Junk E-mail folder? The reason I ask
in that when I open my Junk E-mail folder it's empty? Or,
is there some type of time limit, that I'm unaware of,
that automatically clears my Junk E-mail folder? If so, I
am unable to find such a setting?
As you can see, I'm just trying to find a way to minimize
my need to deal with junk mail. I wouldn't mind reviewing
it periodically in my Junk E-mail folder. I just don't
want to deal with it in my Inbox if possible. Since I'm
specifically identifying my Junk E-Mail Senders there's
no need to review this folder except to delete it
periodically if I can have the junk mail placed in it
automatically.
Thanks, in advance, for replying to this inquiry with any
helpful insight you may have.

Diane:
Sorry I forgot to say I'm using Outlook 2002. Your
references are all for Outlook 2003. All I wnat to know
is are the Junk e-mails automatically placed in the Junk
E-mail folder upon being received in the Inbox (i.e.
transparent to the operator). And, if not, why not? and
if so, why don't I see them?
