Jumpdrive not recognized

HP pavilion 754n, running WindowsXP, SP2, newbie

When inserting a jump drive into the USB port located on the front of my
computer nothing appeared. How do I troubleshoot this problem?
Thanks.
 
If, by that you mean it works IF you insert it into the regular ports in the back, it's probably a lack of available power. There
are extra Hub devices that enhance power for extended ports.
