jpgs adding to background tab

When adding jpgs to "my pictures"they are also adding to
the background tab in display properties.I want to stop
this.

Sounds like there is a path set in the registry to look there. My XP box
only defaults to the C:\WINDOWS\Web\Wallpaper directory for background
pictures.
Look in this directory and see if the pictures being added to your
background tab are in here. If this appears to be default behaviour on your
box you may want to copy the jpgs to another folder within the My Pictures
folder and see if the items are still added to the background tab.You may

Also look at the
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion WALLPAPERDIR
registry key. This may be your issue. The default is:
%SystemRoot%\Web\Wallpaper
