I imported our company logo that is saved as a JPG file. When access the
website in a browser the jpg doesn't just 'appear' it seems to scroll into
view. What would cause this? Other pictures are saved as jpg files on my
site and appear just fine.

Michelle:

You're using a 1008 X 408 grapic, and sizing it down to 339 X 139 when you
load it. The scrolling effect is just the huge file size of 151.5 kb being
loaded and sized. If you've noticed, after opening the page for the first
time, if you refresh it the "scrolling" effect is gone as the browser is
loading the image from cache rather than having to download it.

What I would recommend is that you use a graphic editing program such as
Paint Shop Pro, Fireworks, etc. (don't use FrontPage), resize your image to
the size you want, and optimize it for the web.

Its all about speed. It took your page 8 seconds to load in my browser, and
I'm connecting with a T1. If I were using dial-up, I'd still be waiting for
the image to load. You want to keep your total page size as small as
possible. Graphics are the quickest way to bloat them.

Hope this helps.

No problem. Hope it works out for you.

Just playing around with MS picture manager (at a client site and don't have
access to all my toys) I was able to shrink the file size of your logo from
152 to 35kb. If you get your hands on a decent graphics program you'll be
able to get it even smaller.

Good luck.
