.jpg, gif error

Well Raymond what program.exe means is that the long file path to the exe that you want to use is not being interpreted correctly. You can change to 8.3 file name format. For example:

C:\Progarm Files\Adobe\Photoshop 6.0\x.exe is

C:\PROGRA~1\ADOBE\PHOTOS~1\x.exe %1

Use the dir /x to determine the 8.3 file name format or put the long file name format in quotes:

"C:\Program Files\Adobe\Photoshop 6\x.exe" %1

Or you can always try using Windows Explorer | Tools | Folder Options... | File Types | jpg and gif | Advanced | Open | Edit | program to use.

I'm confused! when I delete the association from my registered applications
in reg (HKClasses) or from folder options and then point it to a new app
(photoshop or paint, have tried many) the app opens and the file doesn't.
then the old associatied icon comes back and when I try to open any jpg's or
gifs in any program I get a box that say's "can't find program.exe" and
wants me to point to a folder which contains that file, there is no
program.exe file on any of my systems and this has me STYMEEEED!! that icon
is not in my choices to pick from when I try to associate any no associated
file type.
any Ideas, I have not installed or uninstalled any programs on that station
for weeks othere than ups worldship update which was after problem started.
so I don't see that as the issue. now the extentions are gone from HKC (i
deleted them manually ) but I still get the error and that Icon, it's the
same after adobe fails to open it from file.. open

thanks for any help, I know I have no virus, trojans ect and am very secure.
realtime scanning is networkwide and always running I'm running active dir,
just tcp/ip from dhcp, all systems are 2k or better.

sorry Davey,
I'm programming something that usesDate(today) variables in many places and
I don't need to reinvent the wheel just to get the date I need. Neat you
picked that up. Anyway it's back to the future and thanks fer wasting time
and bytes, which if you have nothing better to do, read the post and find me
a fix and report back to me!!
